Glimpse Of Hope

From Dave Dubya:

Good for Hatch. It took Obama time to accept marriage equality too.

The question remains when the Party of Trump recognizes this about not only the LGBTQ community, but with liberals, Blacks, Muslims, and immigrants. As long as they are the Party of Trump this consciousness and conscience will be suppressed.

The road is long, and obstructed by the rubble of far Right propaganda, and bridges are far too few. It offers only a slight glimpse of hope when the only Republicans who show truthfulness and compassion are no longer running for office.

Trump Agrees to Let Kim Jong Un Have Pence as Manservant

found online by Raymond

From The Borowitz Report:

The offer reportedly came after Kim spoke glowingly to Trump about the Vice-President’s obsequiousness, sources said.

“Even by North Korean standards, Pence puts my toadies to shame,” Kim reportedly said.

Once the necessary paperwork is squared away, Pence could begin bowing and scraping in Pyongyang as early as next week.

Confessions of a Bigot

Senator Orrin Hatch, conservative Republican from Utah, urges us to accept and to value those who had once been the objects of unmerciful derision, who are still targets:

No one should ever feel less because of their gender identity or sexual orientation. LGBT youth deserve our unwavering love and support. They deserve our validation and the assurance that not only is there a place for them in this society, but that it is far better off because of them.

These young people need us—and we desperately need them. We need their light to illuminate the richness and diversity of God’s creations. We need the grace, beauty and brilliance they bring to the world.

Sofie Werthan of Slate Magazine suggests that Senator Hatch made a lovely little speech but that it is far too little and comes decades too late.

Indeed, his long-standing hostility to equality may have contributed to the very marginalization of LGBTQ people that he now decries. It’s nice to see a Republican senator break from his party on this issue. But his Wednesday statement, however lovely it might’ve been, cannot make up for decades of anti-LGBTQ advocacy.

She details the Senator’s hostility back to the beginning of his 40 plus years in the Senate, with this quote in 1977:

I wouldn’t want to see homosexuals teaching school any more than I’d want to see members of the American Nazi Party teaching school.

Others are a little less harsh.

Hopeless

From Green Eagle:

And as if deliberately trying to prove the truth of that comment, here is the current lead story in the Washington Post:

“Trump-Kim summit yields hope for breakthrough but no guarantees”

What it actually leaded was an utter collapse by The World’s Greatest Deal Maker, and a gigantic loss for the United States, but God forbid that the Washington Post or any other mainstream news source should say that in clear language. The media fell for it, all right.

‘Leadership Hubris Epidemic’ and Frontotemporal Dementia

found online by Raymond

From The Journal of Improbable Research:

What comparisons might be drawn, if any, between the grotesquely exaggerated, often self-destructive personality traits caused by damage to frontal brain regions and the behaviour of prominent characters in the world of business and politics who are suffering from ‘The Hubris Syndrome’?

Curiosity Rover Finds 5 Bucks On Mars

found online by Raymond

From The Onion:

CAPE CANAVERAL, FL—Stunned by both the sheer good fortune of their discovery and its implications for future exploration, scientists at NASA confirmed Friday that the Curiosity Rover had found five bucks in the red dust of Mars’ Gale Crater. “This is unbelievable—five whole American dollars!” said program director Jim Watzin, noting that the presence of a small bill suggests that future manned expeditions may one day be able to receive change back from cash transactions on Mars.

The Capitals Win the Stanley Cup

From Vagabond Scholar:

Sports fandom can be a bit of a silly thing. Most of us inherit our favorite teams from parents or other relatives. Maybe we develop fandom from where we live or once lived. And dedicated fans feel excitement and disappointment, sometimes significant amounts of it, all based on the actions of a person or group of people we can’t control. Fans can pour enormous time, energy and money into following sports, which might be better spent elsewhere. It’s pretty irrational, really.

But fandom can still be glorious.
